Arsenal transfer news: Jakub Kiwior priced out of exit as ‘hope lost’ after £26.1m Andrea Berta decision

Arsenal reportedly price Jakub Kiwior out of an exit to a Portuguese giant and are only willing to sell the Polish defender if their £26.1m valuation is met.
Arsenal have supposedly priced Jakub Kiwior out of a summer exit to Porto, who refused to pay the Gunners’ €30m (£26.1m) asking price for the centre-back.
Since making the move to the Emirates midway through the 2022-23 season, Kiwior has largely been used as an understudy to Gabriel Magalhaes, whose partnership with William Saliba has been near-unbreakable.
The Poland international took his chance with both hands towards the end of last season, though, earning numerous plaudits for his performances against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals following Gabriel’s hamstring injury.
As the Brazil international is now working his way back from a fresh niggle, and Riccardo Calafiori picked up a new issue in pre-season, Kiwior was also named in the starting lineup for last week’s 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in a Hong Kong friendly.
However, the 25-year-old’s future remains up in the air following the arrival of Cristhian Mosquera, while Gabriel will be expected to waltz back into Mikel Arteta‘s XI when fully fit.
Porto ‘lose hope’ in bid to sign Arsenal’s Kiwior
According to A Bola, Porto approached Arsenal to discuss a deal for the former Spezia man, but the Portuguese giants were immediately put off by the Gunners’ asking price.
The three-time Premier League winners are said to be after €30m (£26.1m) to sell Kiwior, who still has three years left to run on his contract at the Emirates Stadium following his €19.5m (£17m) arrival in 2023.
Arsenal’s valuation of the centre-back supposedly made Porto ‘lose any hope’ of a summer deal, and the Dragons instead moved for his compatriot Jan Bednarek, paying just £6.5m to sign him from Southampton.
The report adds that the Gunners are prepared to part ways with Kiwior this summer, but only if their £26.1m asking price is met, as Andrea Berta seeks a profit on the player who was signed by Edu two and a half years ago.
Kiwior has scored three goals and provided five assists in 68 appearances for Arteta’s side in all competitions, starting 10 Premier League games and eight Champions League matches in 2024-25.
Should Arsenal keep or sell Kiwior in summer transfer window?
Some Gooners may have resigned their side to defeat against Real Madrid when Gabriel entered the treatment room, as Arsenal lost one of their major threats in both boxes with the Brazilian’s hamstring injury.
However, while Kiwior could not replicate Gabriel’s set-piece threat, the 25-year-old defied expectations on the biggest stage of them all and more than proved his worth to Arteta after some previous shaky displays.
As Calafiori is injury-prone and Mosquera is acclimatising to life in England, there would be more cons than pros to selling Kiwior from a sporting point of view, but the situation should not be a simple as that.
Kiwior may rightly feel that his stellar performances towards the end of last season warrant regular starts – either at Arsenal or elsewhere – and if he shows a firm desire to leave, selling him on for a profit would be respectable business.
